A guide to individual and team sports and fitness programs for kids in Prince Edward County.
N.B. – For the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic, please reach out to individual organizations to determine whether their programs are running.
Sports
The County Clippers (on pause during the pandemic) operate a youth basketball league for kids from Kindergarten – Grade 8 and an OBA Rep team for older kids. League games are held at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI) in Picton; fall and spring sessions run for 10 weeks each.
Horseback riding – Harper Run Stables on Fish Lake Road provides training in dressage, eventing, show jumping for all ages. Hadherway Farms in Hillier offers weekly private lessons (semi-private available upon request); please visit the website for more information. Tanglewood Farm & Equestrian Centre in Consecon offers riding lessons to kids aged 6 and up.
Pre-pandemic, the Prince Edward Curling Club (PECC) was running a Junior League for kids aged 11-17 on Saturday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. The season runs from November and February.
The Prince Edward County Minor Baseball Association (PECMBA) is open to kids aged 4-19. Kids aged 4-6 will participate in the PEC Blastball League, a baseball initiation program. Games are on weeknights and take place at three diamonds in Wellington.
The Prince Edward County Soccer Association (PECSA) is open to kids aged 4 and up. Games take place on weeknights at Johnson Street Soccer Fields in Picton. The season runs from late May to early August.
The Prince Edward County Minor Hockey Association (PECMHA) is open to kids who are 4 (or will be 4 by year’s end). The season runs from September to March.
The Prince Edward County Skating Club (PECSC) is open to kids aged 3 and up. Sessions run out of the Lehigh Arena in Wellington and the Prince Edward Community Centre in Picton from September to May.
The Quinte Dolphins Swim Club operates out of the Prince Edward Fitness & Aquatic Centre (PEFAC) in Picton. It is open to kids aged 6 and up and the season runs from September to June.
Fitness
County Acrobatics is offering weekly acrobatics classes for children aged 3 and up at the Bloomfield Town Hall. Email countyacrobatics@gmail.com for details and to register.
Magical Movement Kids Yoga is offering some kids’ programming at the Baxter Arts Centre. Visit their website for updated info.
Pre-pandemic, the Prince Edward Fitness & Aquatic Centre (PEFAC) was offering the following kids’ fitness programs.
- Karate & Jiujitsu – ages 5-12 (4 year olds may be admitted).
- Sport & Swim – ages 7-12
- Gym & Swim – ages 5-12
- Dash & Splash – ages 0-5
- Youth Bootcamp – ages 13-17
- Dance 101 – ages 5-11
- Swimming (group, private, semi-private) lessons – starting at 4 months
