With Mother Nature putting on a fabulous show this winter, there are lots of fun options for an enjoyable and active Family Day weekend, both indoors and out. Enjoy!

Saturday February 15th
On Saturday of Family Day weekend from 1-4 p.m, it’s a Textile Takeover at Macaulay House in Picton! Explore two floors bursting with color, texture, and imagination, where every room is filled with contemporary artists putting their own spin on traditional textile arts. See how these talented creators turn age-old techniques into something fresh, modern, and totally inspiring. It will be interactive with live demos occurring throughout the day. Details here.
The Picton Library is hosting a storytime and singalong from 10:30-11:30 with special guest Chloe Fox! Details here. They are also hosting a book sale this Friday and Saturday!
Alchemy Artist Residency and friends are hosting an open artist studio event at The Grange Vineyard on Closson Road from 12-4 featuring artists from their weeklong winter artist residency.
Sunday February 16th
CANCELLED DUE TO THE STORM – The Waring House is hosting a Winter Carnival with wagon rides (weather permitting) and winter games with prizes to be won, mulled cider, and hot chocolate. The pub will also be open! Info here.
Monday February 17th
The Regent Theatre hosts Frozen in Time performances at 11 and 2 – Join your two favourite princesses (Elsa and Anna) for an afternoon of storytelling and sing along! A perfect family outing that kids of all ages will enjoy. Little ones are encouraged to dress as their favourite Frozen character. Limited tickets still available here.
The Municipality of PEC and a number of community partners are hosting an all-day Family Day extravaganza at the Wellington Arena and Highline Hall from 9-3 – Free public skating, games and stories, Animal Tracks Adventure at the South Shore Joint Initiative booth, free book distribution from County Kids Read, and more. Free soup and chili provided by the Wellington Rotary Club from 11:30-1. Info here. There is also free public skating from 9-3 at the Picton Arena.
County Creative Gallery is hosting a Family Day pottery painting event ($12 for a mug) from 10-11:30. Reserve your spots here.
The County Museums are hosting Making Memories at Macaulay House from 12-3 – create a mini family photo album using book-binding techniques, and enjoy free cider and snacks by the hearth.
This Family Day the National Air Force Museum (Trenton) is “recruiting” for EXPEDITION: ARCTIC, a unique discovery program that explores the vast expanse of the Canadian Arctic. Recruits will be faced with a number of challenges in order to successfully complete the expedition – including traversing a BV all-terrain vehicle through the arctic landscape and identifying key environmental resources in the Polar Lab. Once recruits have explored all corners of Canada’s Arctic, and successfully completed the Great Mitten Challenge they will have earned their expedition patch! Activities from 10-3, admission by donation. Museum hours are 10-5. Info here.
All Weekend – Saturday February 15th-Monday February 17th
Escape Camp Picton is offering their three immersive escape room experiences all Family Day weekend long with a special Family Day offer – at the end of your escape you will be transported back in time with a display on daily life during World War II with food rations, victory gardens and more – and the chance to try a traditional war time cake. It’s a “Dog Man” (the movie) weekend at The Regent Theatre, with screenings Friday evening at 6:30, Saturday morning at 11, and Sunday at 11 and 2. Tickets here.
